making dragon boat
Make a cardboard dragon boat!: a few years back, i found myself at a winery on seneca lake in upstate ny. while enjoying some of the local rieslings, i noticed some photos hanging on the wall of what appeared to be a cardboard boat race. there were boats of all shapes and siz.... Hard to make, easy to eat, zongzi come round once a year during the dragon boat festival. and, as with most chinese cuisine, there’s a story behind them. if you can tie knots like a boy scout and have the patience of a sloth-handler, then maybe, just maybe, you have what it takes to make zongzi – a leaf-wrapped rice parcel and traditional. Xiang bao (香圅), or perfume sachets, are a traditional craft made during the dragon boat festival, which falls on june 20 this year. here's how to make them..
