planking boat deck
One of the features of the class is the deck is teak planks, with a mahogony rubbing strip around the edge. am using basswood strip where the teak wpuld have been used and a mahogony rubbing strip. have planked several models before, but not been happy with the finish. have ended up using a clear matte aerosol spray over the deck.. You will then plank the deck later—photo 5. on the other hand if your model has a false deck where the bulkhead frames of the hull do not come above the deck then you have a choice—either to fit the false deck before planking the hull and plank the deck later or to plank the hull and plank the false deck and fit it later—photo 6.. I have just recently started my fourth build, the vanguard, and have a question regarding deck planking. on my prior builds (mississippi river boat, blue shadow, and the corsair), i only had to deal with one main deck, so i have always used line/string/thread for the deck planking running parallel with the planks, and between the plank butt ends..
planking boat deck The covering board on a boat with straight planks or the king plank of a swept deck, was then cut to accept these ‘snaped’ or squared off ends. these ‘snaped’ ends on new decks are often cut with a router. this, however, creates a curve at the end of the planks. plank ends like this could not have been caulked conventionally. spacing.
